Wind Cave National Park

All trips to National Parks are not equal. Some I savor and others I skim … though not on purpose.

We arrived at Wind Cave National Park with hopes of taking the 20 minute Discovery tour into the cave. However, as we advanced in the short line, the family in front of us secured the last spots on the 10am tour and the next available time was at 1pm. With a big day ahead of us, we did not have the time to wait. PLUS the mom of that group was hacking and coughing like crazy without a mask on, which was very concerning to me as I do not want to get COVID … and the thought of being in a cave with others like her made me very nervous.

I call it the first U-Turn of the day, it was time to pivot. Our original plan did not work, so it was on to the next. That said, Mak and I headed back to the car adventured through the park. To our delight, within minutes we were amongst bison and prairie dogs, which made us super happy indeed. And Mak leaned the valuable lesson that we must yield for the wildlife. He had never seen a bison this close and he was thrilled.
