Jewel Cave National Monument

Our day must have been destined from the start that we would not adventure underground. On our second stop at Jewel Cave National Monument, we also missed out on the 11:30am tour and had the option of waiting for the 1:30pm tour. We opted to pass and take the Roof Trail hike around the park.

Upon our return to the visitor center, we encountered the pending tour. As we walked by, some smokers were getting their last pulls before they headed down into the depths … and I started thanking my lucky stars that I was not among them underground! Although we missed out on another cave, we soaked up some beautiful nature.

And yes, I am well aware that I could have purchased my cave tickets well in advance, but this was a last minute trip built on enjoyment and discovery … and not strict schedules.
