San Juan National Historic Site

On our first day in Puerto Rico, we adventured to the San Juan National Historic Site to explore around the fort. We started at Castillo San Cristobal and were pleasantly surprised there was a second fort to explore too. As I do not do a ton of research before visiting a NPS Unit, this was a fun surprise indeed. While en route to Castillo San Filipe del Morro, we passed through the charming Historic San Juan with many colorful houses.

We loved it all!

A question the boys asked: “What is the White flag with the jagged red cross? At El Morro and San Cristobal alongside the U.S. and Puerto Rican Flags flies the "Cross of Burgundy," a Spanish military flag used from the 16th to the 18th century to identify warships, forts, and regiments of troops loyal to the king of Spain.”
