Kaloko-Honokōhau National Historic Park
We arrived in the hot heat of the afternoon and the boys were zapped from already a morning of fun in the sun. So we toured the visitor’s center and hatched a plan to do the big hike in the morning during our next visit. We are scheduled to go Dec. 2021, so I’ll post more photos then. It was a this site, along with the inspiration from Andy at 418parks.com that I want to pursue visiting all sites in the NPS collection.
Explore more at NPS.gov … To survive in a hot and arid environment the native Hawaiians (kanaka maoli) used ancient fishing skills, including the building of fishponds, and the knowledge of the location of precious fresh water (wai) that flows into the many brackish pools throughout the park. The spirit of the people (poe) and the knowledge of the elders (kupuna) created a tradition of respect and reverence for this area.
