Haleakala National Park
On a Bach Family trip to Hawaii in 1991 to spread my Dad’s ashes on Diamond Head, we also visited Maui. We had so much fun touring around the island in our massive Lincoln Town Car and a highlight was visiting Haleakala National Park.
And then on our Honeymoon in May of 2001, we hiked up the trails with my Father-in-law and his adventurous wife Faye. I am taking this picture, with Faye smiling, and Bo’s Dad Lanny behind her, and then Bo as the fourth. It was way more rugged than they anticipated for an island park, but the views were sensational … and that is the beauty of Hawaii and all of its eco-systems!
Explore more at www.wikipedia.com … Haleakalā National Park is an American national park located on the island of Maui in the state of Hawaii. Named after Haleakalā, a dormant volcano within its boundaries, the park covers an area of 33,265 acres (52.0 sq mi; 134.6 km2), of which 24,719 acres (38.6 sq mi; 100.0 km2) is a wilderness area. The land was designated a national park in 1976 and its boundaries expanded in 2005.
My early explorations of National Parks did not include a trip to the visitor’s center. Now that I have discovered the passport book, unique stamps for each site, and the quest to visit all units, I will be stopping in to learn more, explore the exhibits and get my stamps. For the sites that I have visited, I have added the stamps to my book and my visits will all be recorded in this section of the blog.
