Port Townsend, Washington

For some reason, visiting the rain shadow town of Port Townsend, Washington has always on my bucket list of things to do. Many moons ago, when I was dating a boy with the last name Townsend, I found a Fort Townsend framed postcard at a thrift shop. Both the postcard and the boyfriend are long gone, But as of today, my goal to visit was accomplished!

Look closely to see the lighthouse in the distance.

When we arrived in Port Townsend, we took a walk on North Beach in the cold wind. We spotted a light house in the distance, so it was off to Fort Warden Historical State Park to tour around Point Wilson Lighthouse … with the stunning Mt. Baker in the background! While en route, we passed two spotted deer resting in seated positions in two different lawns. Nature thrives up here!

In Port Townsend, we stopped by Food Co-Op and picked up some snacks for the ferry and we scored … Caprese Salad with tomoato, basil mozzerella salad, Southwest Corn Pudding, basically a creamy corn fritter with green chilies and Emerald Spring Salad with crunchy kale and a big garlic kick. We almost got in an accident in the parking lot other car backed up quickly without using their mirrors, and we honked and pulled back into our spot. So super happy we avoided that … Whew! And then it was off to ferry to wait in line with our reservation in hand, to enjoy our snacks, and head to Whidbey Island.
