Global ADVENTURE List
I feel I have travelled a lot, however, I have tended to go to the same places time and time again (Hawaii and Costa Rica for surf trips with Bo). So as we exit this COVID Craziness after several years, and a cancer battle for me, I am going to seek to explore in new places and spaces of beauty. Watch out world!!! There are 195 countries in the world by the United Nations. I am super inspired by Jessica Nabongo / The Catch Me if You Can traveller and her quest to visit all of the countries in the world by age 35 … and becoming the first black female to accomplish this bold and phenomenal goal!
There are 195 countries in the world today. This total comprises 193 countries that are member states of the United Nations and 2 countries that are non-member observer states: the Holy See and the State of Palestine.
Not included in this total count of 195 countries are:
Taiwan - the United Nations considers it represented by the People's Republic of China
The Cook Islands and Niue, both states in free association with New Zealand which are members of several UN specialized agencies and have been recognized "full treaty-making capacity", but are neither member states nor non-member observer states.
Dependencies (or dependent territories, dependent areas, dependencies) and Areas of Special Sovereignty (autonomous territories)
Other countries recognized by the United Nations as not being self-governing
Of the 195 countries in the world, here is the breakdown by continent:
I am inspired by my friend Chris’s family, Noonans Get Lost, who took a year off and traveled the world from Fall of 2022 to Summer of 2023. They are planning to “chase the sun” so that it will be Spring and Summer throughout their travels. Their ideal plan is:
Central and South America (Sept-Nov)
Australia and New Zealand (Dec-Jan)
Japan and Southeast Asia (Feb-Mar)
India (Early Spring)
Africa (Late Spring)
Europe (Summer) — And I met up with them in Amsterdam in June 2023!
