Fishing Rock State Recreation Site

My friend Lola told me about Fishing Rock State Recreation Site. She had gone there to watch the King Tides a few weeks back. Today, the ocean was simply just crashing against the rocks. We took the short walk out to the lookout area and it was beautiful. I love this photo as it captures someone writing at the edge of the world.

Explore more at www.outdoorproject.com … Fishing Rock lies off the beaten path from Highway 101, but it is only by a quarter of a mile to find solitude here. At the south end of Lincoln Beach, just north of Fogarty Creek, this small point made up of fragile sandstone is an ideal perch for whale watching. Gray whales can often be seen with the naked eye not far off-shore from here. While amenities are quite limited in this recreation area (there are no tables or even restrooms), parking in the small lot is free.

A short trail through thick foliage soon opens to expansive views to the south from atop the short bluff. As the trail approaches the point, a network of trails criss-cross the rock through more thick foliage. Following the trail that leads mostly west gives way to a grassy meadow allowing panoramic views over a rocky coast. Delving back into the thick foliage, following the Oregon Coast Trail markers to the north will lead down onto Lincoln Beach. Total trail mileage is approximately a quarter of a mile.
