Fort Vancouver National Historic Site

After I’d been diagnosed with cancer and had started chemotherapy, on a pleasant day, I was inspired to take the short trek to Fort Vancouver National Historic Site. It was March 7, 2020. My sister had been telling me about some crazy virus that was spreading globally and we needed to start paying attention to this COVID-19. I knew I needed to be in nature during my treatments, so I naively went on a solo mission to fulfill my new quest.

On that adventure, it wasn’t the Fort that caught my attention, it was this stunning portrait of a Native American Woman. I wrote this on Instagram … She is titled “Sometimes During a Summerstorm, Her Hair Ran with Rainbows.” I discovered this on my fun personal field trip to Fort Vancouver National Historic Site yesterday. Keep exploring and you are bound to find beautiful gems that inspire you to be a better partner to our planet! Painting by Kevin Peters 1991.

Little did we know, that the next week, on March 13th, our lives and our world would be forever changed. And that one of the first epicenters, besides New York, would be Washington State.
