Canaveral National Seashore

My first NPS Unit of 2024 is the beautiful Canaveral National Seashore! On Spring Break with the boys, we roadtripped down to to New Smyrna Beach to explore this magical protected land that borders the Atlantic Ocean and the Intercostal Waterway. And a big bonus is that I had my first Armadillo sighting! And we saw two gopher turtles and some vultures. Nature is always full of surprises and beauty!

In March 2021, a was a prescribed burn. “At Canaveral National Seashore's Playalinda Beach District there was a prescribed burn yesterday burning approximately 1,052 acres . This reduced hazardous fuels (dry under brush) in the wildland urban interface WUI, where structures and cultural resources meet nature.”
