Minnesota Hinterlands

On our big Minnesota National Park Road Trip, we stayed in some remote places, which we lovingly named the Minnesota Hinterlands.

Our first stop was The Thunderbird Lodge on Rainy Lake offering beautiful views and a launch pad to Voyagers National Park. The property is very rustic and surprisingly has a very lively bar and restaurant scene. We arrived late on our first night, after a long drive from Minneapolis, and we were very thankful to land in the bar for a few refreshments

Our second stop was to the charming town Grand Marias, Minnesota. We loved exploring the town and enjoyed a delicious dinner at the Angry Trout Cafe. The next morning, before catching our seaplane flight to Isle Royale National Park, we grabbed fresh donuts at the World's Best Donuts … and we are happy to report they were scrumptious! And we stopped by the North House Folk School to admire the carved art and to get some fresh air by the lake.
