Washington DC
I first visited DC during an 8th Grade East Coast Trip. DC is only 3 square miles, but so much history is packed into our nation’s capital. During that first trip, we toured the Capital, White House, National Gallery, and many Smithsonian Museum. It was a time when you could move freely throughout the city, which unfortunately is not the case today.
After college, I was fortunate enough to get an internship on Capital Hill representing the 5th District of Oregon. Soon after, I was hired onto the legislative staffer and loved learning about how our government works … but mostly to get the opportunity to explore DC. There is always something happening in DC!
Highlights of my years there were attending The Clinton Inauguration and the Ball at the Kennedy Center, seeing Natalie Cole perform at Wolf Trap, seeing The Grateful Dead perform at RFK, attending a Rock the Vote event at the Hilton and chatting with Anjelica Huston, Lorraine Bracco and Christopher Reed, having lunch with Jack Valenti, president of the Motion Picture Association of America, attending the opening of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum and listening to Elie Wiesel speak and attending the US Open at Baltusrol in New Jersey, attending the Preakness Stakes is an American thoroughbred horse race in Baltimore, eating at the Maryland Crab and Seafood Festival, taking a Ghost Tour through Arlington, adventuring down to North Carolina and exploring Bald Head Island and many weekend jaunts to NYC.
