Carlsbad Caverns National Park

I love how nature is constantly teaching me new interesting things! Carlsbad Caverns delivered just that and more at 975 floors below the earth’s surface.

Stalagmites rise from the floor and can meet to create a column, while other formations look like needles, popcorn, pearls and flowers. Growths from the roof downward are known as Stalactites and the formations have super cool names like soda straws, draperies, ribbons or curtains. And the coolest of the cool thing to know is that they are made of living cells! Although they are rocks and not plants. … they grow and get bigger very slowly.

Discovered in 1901, “The Caverns consist of a series of loft and spacious underground chambers and connecting corridors, with alcoves extending off to the sides that are of great beauty. Most impressive is the famous Big Room, nearly 4000 feet long, 625 feet wide, and at one place 300 feet high.”
