Field Trip: Nantucket, Massachusetts

It was my first time to Nantucket, but not my last! The origins of the adventure were to meet my parents on Nantucket when the boated over with their dear friends the Wessons. We were have a fabulous weekend together … meet for cocktails on their awesome boat, have amazing dinners together, and shop at all of the cute shops. AND, then Hurricane Ian moved up north and the seas became too choppy for us to execute our plan. My parents did not make the voyage over … so James and I did what we do best, we rose to the occasion, and had the best weekend ever! We did have to stay one extra day due to the ferries all being cancelled due to weather. Which we happily spent it day drinking at CRU and we were happy to be snug as bugs for an extra night at the White Elephant.

We splurged and got a two bedroom residence at the White Elephant. It gave us both room to spread out and really enjoy our stay.

And then it was off to find the Club Car, as per Papa’s recommendation!

On Day #2, the weather started to hit, but that did not stop us one bit! We soaked up the day and got soaking wet. We started off with breakfast at Island Kitchen Nantucket and ended it at Chanticleer for dinner, curtesy of my parents dinner reservation. And special thanks to Epernay Wine & Spirits for our afternoon libations.

We thought we were leaving on Sunday … but Hurricane Ian had other plans and all ferries were cancelled. So we made the best of it by exploring the island! The White Elephant has a BMW SUV available to borrow, so we zipped around in the crazy winds to check out some beaches.

And then headed over to CRU for oysters and cocktails!

On our “BONUS” 1/2 day, when I was not running around to rebook ferry tickets and to buy slow-boat ferry tickets, and when James was catching up on work, I toured the delightful Whaling Museum!

On my way back to the hotel, I received the text update that our fast ferry had been cancelled. So I ran back to pack it all up to get in queue for the slow ferry … that was hopefully going that day. After securing airplane tickets at various times for the next day as back-ups, we zipped over to the ferry terminal and it was a go. The two-hour ride was very bumpy, but we made it back to Hyannis. WHEW!
