South Dakota

My 36th State! It only took me 51 years to get to South Dakota and in a matter of a few days, I managed to visit all 5 of their NPS Units. As perspective, I’ve lived in Oregon most of my life and I’ve only visited 2 of our 4 units.

But alas, I have visited South Dakota and it was beautiful and full of prairie dogs!

And perhaps the best donut that I’ve ever tasted was at Wall Drug! Seriously, I love my donuts and we hail from the land of Voodoo Doughnuts, … and our Wall Drug classic donut with maple frosting was so delicious and was well worth the stop!

And the highlight of visiting South Dakota was Crazy Horse Memorial! Their mission is to protect and preserve the culture, tradition and living heritage of the North American Indians. The views during the day are spectacular, the history is powerful, and the land is beautiful. It is a must see and please add it to your list! After we toured the memorial, we enjoyed “THE INDIAN MUSEUM OF NORTH AMERICA® is home to a large collection of art and artifacts reflecting the diverse histories and cultures of over 300 Native Nations”

National Park Service Units: 5/5 … COMPLETE!!!

So CRAZY as it was the first time I’ve ever been to South Dakota and I was able to see all five of their NPS Units … and I live in Oregon (as I have had for most of my life) and I’ve only been to two units in my home state. I’ve got some work to do!
