Lewis and Clark National Historical Park
As a native Oregonian and a National Park Service Super Fan, I am always surprised that I am now just venturing out to visit the gems in my home state. Today, on a unique sunny and crisp February day, I explored Lewis and Clark National Historical Park at Fort Clatsop.
Also, I am realizing that this mission of mine must sometimes be a solo effort. After much coaxing of Sam to join me today, and to leave the comfort of his Sunday morning sleep-in, I decided to go out on my own. I need to do this as to train myself for future adventures. Not everyone is going to want to go to National Park Service Units with me for all of our outings. Bo coined it “Dana’s Quest” today and that is what it truly is … my personal quest to heal in nature.
Thank goodness I have borrowed Obama’s book Promised Land on audio from my library to keep me company. Drive time was 1 hour 45 minutes there and then back
This is Indian Country of the Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians and Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde And the NPS identifies it was also the home to the Chinook, Clatsop, and Nehalem Indians. And I learned today that Clatsop is actually an indigenous peoples name.
