Lake Mead National Recreational Area

Lake Mead National Recreational Area is America’s first and largest national recreation area. By the time we arrived here, the Rangers congratulated me on being so bold to attend on such a stormy day. As the storm started to hit, I toured the shoreline in the whipping wind. As I took a solo hike along the shore only one other brave soul was down there with me. I had planned on hitting two more parks the next day, but the storm closed the all of passes, so it was wheels up early for me and home to see my boys.

“With striking landscapes and brilliant blue waters, this year-round playground spreads across 1.5 million acres of mountains, canyons, valleys and two vast lakes. See the Hoover Dam from the waters of Lake Mead or Lake Mohave, or find solitude in one of the park's nine wilderness areas.”

Mojave National Preserve and Castle Mountains National Monument will have to wait until next time! I was able to update my flight and get out early in the AM to see my boys. Fun to see the glorious snowy mountains as I flew out of Sin City.

And I love this NPS LOVE on Twitter!
