Taste: The London Cookbook

As Mak is in London for his LMU Study Abroad, I wanted to showcase a favorite book about the awesome city! The London Cookbook was given to me as a gift and every page is a history of one of our world’s most dynamic places.

A cookbook by Jenny Linford is “A celebration of the capital’s food culture, THE LONDON COOKBOOK is an appetizing mixture of recipes, reminiscences, history and photography. As well as sharing her own recipes, food writer Jenny Linford has gathered others from food-loving Londoners, including professionals such as market stall-holders, delicatessen owners, chefs and restaurateurs, as well as people who simple love cooking for their families and friends.

Recpes reflect the cosmopolitan diversity of London life, embracing hearty main dishes such as Jewish Chicken Soup or Spanish Chorizo and Bean Stew along with life-enhancing accompaniments like zinc Gujarati chutney and indulgent treats like Rose Fairy Cakes. Traditional English dishes, such as Beef and Ale Stew sit alongside contributors’ personal and family recipes like Teresa’s Quince and Apple Pie and Yuka’s Japanese Pork with Miso. Alongside the recipes are reminiscences by London’s butchers, bakers, fishmongers and cheese mongers, painting a unique picture of London life. Read the stories behind the city’s the and coffee trade, its speciality food shops, markets, and its distinctive eel and pie shops and fish and chips bars. Discover London’s food history — and tuck into an evocative taste of London.”

Can you say YUM! And we love this quote included in the front jacket pocket…
