National Capital Parks East

A green oasis in the heart of democracy! In November, while doing some NPS research, I realized we visited National Capital Parks East when we explored at Greenbelt Park this summer on our epic East Coast Road Trip. Truly a hidden jewel!

“Welcome to National Capital Parks-East. We invite you to journey to the parks east of the Capitol of Washington, D.C. National Capital Parks-East consists of 14 park sites, parkways and statuary covering more than 8,000 acres of historic, cultural, and recreational parklands from Capitol Hill to the nearby Maryland suburbs.”

“Greenbelt Park is a hidden jewel located just outside of Washington, DC. It provides a sylvan escape from the busy city life where you can camp, hike, and enjoy time with friends and family. Camp ten miles from the Washington Monument! Greenbelt Park is located in suburban Greenbelt, Maryland just ten miles from the Washington D.C. attractions. Visit to enjoy affordable camping, peaceful surroundings in an urban forest, and National Park Service hospitality. Greenbelt Park has a 172 site campground, nine miles of trails and three picnic areas.”
